But Americans don’t do submission well. We are the land of the free. We are independent. Our attitude is that no one tells us what to do. Often, if we disagree strongly enough with a decision our boss or teacher or coach or elected leader or pastor makes, we get mad & rebel. We fight. We become combative. We refuse to cooperate or submit. We’ll even tell people that we only submit to God and not to humans.
The truth is, however, that God gives authority to humans and he places them over us in a variety of capacities. He gives us a boss at work, police on the streets, coaches on a team, parents at home (if you’re a kid), a pastor at church, etc. These authority figures have God-given authority over us. And unless they are asking us to commit a clear sin (like committing a crime, lying, stealing, being sexually immoral, etc.) we are to submit to their authority.
If we do, God blesses and protects us. If we don’t, we find ourselves rebelling against God himself, since he gave them their authority. Further, his protection over us is removed and his displeasure falls on us in small and big ways.
I know. I’ve failed in this area many times in my life and have paid a heavy price in misery & loss as a result. On the other hand, when I’ve submitted to authority (so long as clear sin wasn’t involved), God richly blessed me and protected me from harm. Everyone else around me may have taken losses, but God protected & blessed me.
Please, I can’t recommend this book highly enough. Get it. Read it. Follow its counsel, because it is thoroughly Biblical, as you’ll see when you read it. It cannot be refuted. Ignore the Biblical truths in this book and pay a heavy, high price. Follow the Biblical truths in this book and find blessing and protection under God’s umbrella.
