"Anyone who puts a hand to the plow and then looks back is not fit for the Kingdom of God" Jesus (The Bible, Luke 9:62, New Living Translation).
Jesus uttered these words when he challenged two men to follow him and they made excuses as to why they couldn't do it right then.
It is amazing to me to hear some of the excuses people make for not serving God. Take church attendance, for example. It's pathetic the excuses people use to regularly miss church: 1.We had a project to finish at home. 2. We had company over. 3. We had a birthday party. 4. We've been busy. 5. I was tired. 6. We had a baby. 7. I had homework. 8. I didn't have a ride (though they didn't even try to find one). 9. I had to watch the grandkids. 10. I went to bed late and was tired. You name it! I can't tell you how many weekends I've preached THREE times after only sleeping 3-4 hours the night before. And I'm recalling the time my 19-year old daughter, Sarah, took a 6-hour car ride to hear me preach my trial sermon at Celebrate Life only 2-3 weeks after a major, nine-hour operation in which her neck was cut open ear to ear, the incision slicing through muscles and nerves. Yet, she loved God and Dad so much that she endured a long, painful ride and went to church.
Think of this and review the excuses written above that people give for not being in church. Pathetic, isn't it?
The truth is most people are just lukewarm. They aren't on fire for Jesus and really have little or no passion for Him, His work, His Word or His Son, Jesus. They're flakes. They flake in and out of church depending on their whims and moods. It's all about THEM.
I wonder what Jesus would say to them? Hmmm. Maybe he'd say, "Yo're not fit for the
