My wife & I happened to catch an episode of "So you think you can dance" last night as they picked the top 20 dancers to launch their season 6 show. I don't plan to watch the entire season, but have seen it in the past and couldn't help but notice last night that Cat Deeley (the show's host) was looking older. While she is only 34 years old (a quick Google search told me this), she looked much older last night. She had lines under her eyes and her face looked kind of droopy and tired.
It's funny how quickly age catches up on us. Youthful beauty quickly fades and that perfect, tight skin loosens and begins to sag and drag. It isn't long before we look in the mirror and scarcely believe how old we look, when inside we feel young.
The words of David come to mind here: "Teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom." (Psalm 90:12 - NLT). Life is so brief, so short, and it quickly passes by. We are young and soon we are old. The only question that matters after life rushes by is: What is our relationship to God and are we ready to face him when we die?
Nothing else in this life even comes close in importance to answering this question “ not football, or baseball or any sport, or money, or job, or school, or possessions, or houses, or land, or promotions, or sex, or boyfriends, or girlfriends, or marriage, or even family.
Because soon - so very, very soon - life will be over. Then what? Are you ready? If you have Jesus you are. If you don't have Jesus, you aren't.
It's that simple.
