Who says kids have to have a cell phone? Yes, cell phones can be a big blessing and a way for parents to stay in touch with their kids. But more often, it is a tool for Satan to use to invade the lives of our children.
Today, kids are sexting one another. That’s not a typo. Sexting is sending sexually explicit messages or photos to others via cell phone. Kids are doing this on a regular basis today. To put it another way, kids are having phone sex on their cell phones, often right under the noses of their parents. Some are even sending nude or semi-nude photos of themselves to their boyfriends or girlfriends or friends. And again, parents are clueless.
Also, many kids as young as 6 or 8 years old are sending or receiving text messages & pictures from peers that are laced with profanity and content that encourages our kids to rebel against authority, commit crime, disobey, lie, cheat, steal, be sexually promiscuous and dishonor God in many ways. Many kids are sending or receiving pornographic or perverted images through text messaging, and all the while, most parents don’t have a clue this is going on.
In light of all of this and after much prayerful thought, it is my personal opinion that kids (of any age) don’t need cell phones. It’s not only an unnecessary expense, it’s like throwing out the welcome mat to Satan and giving him a private line to our kids to fill their lives with every kind of evil. And, parents, if you insist on letting your kids have phones, I strongly urge you to carefully and doggedly and consistently control these phones. You should carefully and daily monitor your kids’ incoming and outgoing messages and pictures, as well as any email or web sites they may visit on their phones. But most parents aren’t going to take the time to do this, they’re too busy. So, my strong recommendation is to just take the phones away or never give them to your kids to start with.
And if your kids cry and scream that they want a phone because all their friends have one, just tell them they can have one just as soon as they grow up and move out of the house and can pay for it themselves. Meanwhile, teach them the Word of God and let their young minds be saturated with the ideas and morals and values and commands of the Almighty. They need this more than food or school or air.
